Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data Sinova collects when you use the website sinova.tv and the Sinova apps for iOS and Android, why we collect it and what you can do about it.

Who is responsible

Sinova is operated by FERHAT CANBERK DÖĞER, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at [email protected].

What we collect

Account: your email address, display name, username, password (stored only as a salted hash), language, country and time zone. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we also store the account identifier and the verified email address they give us.

Your activity: the movies and series in your library, your watch history, ratings, notification settings, friends, groups, watch sessions and your votes in the watch-tonight match.

Imports: when you import a Netflix or TV Time file, we read it once and keep only the rows we need to match titles; the file itself is not stored. Deleting an import deletes its rows.

Devices: when you allow notifications in an app, we store a push token for your device, its platform, language and app version.

Technical data: our servers record requests, including your IP address and browser or app details, to keep the service secure and working, and remember which browser or app a sign-in session was started from.

Why we use it

We use this data to run your account and the features you use: keeping track of what you watch, telling you about new episodes, connecting you with the friends and groups you choose, and importing your history. We use technical data to prevent abuse, for example by limiting repeated requests, and to fix problems. We don't sell your data and don't use it for advertising.

Legal basis (KVKK article 5 and GDPR article 6): providing the service you signed up for, our legitimate interest in keeping it secure, and your consent where we ask for it.

Who else sees it

Other Sinova users see only what the features show them: your display name and username and, only for your friends and the groups you join, what you choose to share, such as watch sessions and match progress. Your individual votes stay private.

Service providers process data on our behalf: our servers run behind Cloudflare, which carries website and app traffic; posters and images load from TMDB's image servers, which see your IP address; emails are sent through an email delivery service. Movie and episode information comes from TMDB and TVmaze; we don't send them your personal data.

Some of these providers are outside Turkey, so your data may be transferred abroad as far as necessary to provide the service.

Cookies and analytics

The website uses only the cookies it needs to work: sign-in cookies that keep you signed in, a short-lived cookie while you sign in with Apple or Google, and a cookie that remembers your language. No advertising or tracking cookies are used.

We may count visits with Umami, a cookieless analytics tool that runs on our own server. It stores nothing on your device and does not identify you.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account in the app or on the website, your account and personal data are deleted, and your ratings are removed from the public averages. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and then deleted.

Security

Passwords are stored as salted hashes, sign-in tokens only as hashes, and connections are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data.

Your rights

Under article 11 of KVKK and the GDPR you can ask what data we hold about you, get a copy, have it corrected or deleted, object to its processing and ask who it was shared with. You can correct most of it and delete your account yourself in your account settings; for anything else, write to [email protected]. We answer within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) or to the data protection authority where you live.

Children

Sinova is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we update the date above and tell you about significant changes in the app or by email.
